Lights Out is a beautifully simple grid puzzle that has fooled players for decades. A grid of tiles is lit up. Tapping any tile flips that tile and its four neighbours between on and off. The goal: turn every tile off in as few moves as possible. It sounds trivial. It is not — every tap changes five squares at once, and what looks like a clear move now can lock the whole board later.

The depth of Lights Out comes from how every press has consequences in multiple directions. There is real, provable mathematics behind which boards are solvable and which patterns of moves clear them. You do not need to know any of that to enjoy the game, but you might notice that your brain starts forming little rules of thumb after a few solves — "always press the edges first", "never press the centre twice" — which is exactly the kind of pattern recognition the puzzle is designed to grow.

This version is free, browser-based and tracks your best move count so you have a target to beat every session. The grid is fully responsive and works just as well on a phone as on a desktop. There is no time pressure, no ads inside the game and no sign-up. It is the perfect short-form mental warm-up between meetings or a calm wind-down at the end of the day.
